Under the leadership of Randy and Deb Lawrence, in recent years, The Red Creek Rotary has participated in a program to bring clean drinking water to homes in Honduras. Waterborne pathogens are a major cause of childhood illness in Central America. Partnering with Border Buddies Ministries, Inc.,our club has been able to place Sawyer .1 micron Bucket Filters in many homes, providing a reliable source of safe drinking water where there was none before. Each filter kit can clean up to one million gallons of water. That translates into up to 7 years of good water before the filter needs to be replaced. Red Creek Rotary is a regular donor and supporter of this project. Since the start of the project, approximately 1,400 filter kits have been placed in homes, with plans to continue helping more households.
